World faces cybersecurity skills shortage

Organisations around the world face a talent shortage when seeking to security workers with cyber security skills, according to a worldwide survey.

In a study sponsored by the Intel Security and the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), 82 percent of 775 cyber security professionals surveyed reported that their organisation faced a data security skill shortage, while 71 percent reported that the lack of talent increased the risk of attacks.

According to James Lewis, senior vice president at CSIS, "A shortage of people with cybersecurity skills results in direct damage to companies, including the loss of proprietary data and IP," "This is a global problem; a majority of respondents in all countries surveyed could link their workforce shortage to damage to their organisation."
